For optimal performance, select a FlexMedical recommended scanner. These scanners have been tested and support all the functionality that FlexMedical requires.

Modems and Fax Cards

Claims and EDI

Any Windows compatible 56k analog modem is capable of handling EDI.

Faxing

FlexMedical Fax utilizes the Microsoft Fax service built into Windows Server. It is very important to use a quality, Windows certified fax modem or fax card. We recommend two solutions:

US Robotics USR5686E, F, or G – the USR5686 model comes in various revisions (the E, F, or G) and is a solid modem for both EDI and faxing. At around $100, it is also relatively affordable. While this is a good solution for faxing, it can be temperamental when used with certain phone systems, areas where phone line quality is poor, and other situations that present challenges to analog communication.

Brooktrout Fax Cards – Brooktrout fax cards, now owned by Dialogic, are the defacto standard for electronic faxing. They are more expensive that the US Robotics option, but the quality is also much greater. There are cards that support a single line, and there are options that support 2 lines and more. This can provide incoming and outgoing fax lines from a single card.

Please note that a Brooktrout card is NOT a modem and cannot be used for analog communication for EDI.
